Akilpo Trek This is one of the most beautiful treks in Cordillera Blanca, for it offers a lot of landscapes with lagoons, queneales forests and mountains. Being a light trek, many tourists chose it for acclimatization before a larger trekking.

TIP:

  • We recommend you to do at least a 1-Day hike in altitude to be acclimatized before doing this tour.
  • We can offer you different hikes.
  • Huaraz - Acclimatization Churup lake

    This is a very good hike to acclimatize. From Huaraz we go by car to the village of Pitec. On the way we pass several picturesque villages, such as Unchus and Llupa. At 3850 m /12,631 ft we start our easy hike up to Lake Churup with its blue colors sitting at an altitude of 4440 m /14,566 ft ling over steep rocks. And then we come back to Huaraz by the same way.

    Itinerary

    Day 01: Huaraz 3100 m / 10,170 ft – Laguna de Akilpo 4200 m / 13,779 ft
    We will transfer you from Huaraz to Honcopampa. There, we will start the trail till Akilpo Lagoon. On the way, we will cross a beautiful qenuales forest. Duration: approx. 6 – 7 hours.

    Day 02: Akilpo Lagoon – Ishinca Valley 4350 m / 14,271 ft
    After breakfast, we will start ascending to Urus Pass (5000 m). From there, we will have panoramic views towards the mountains Vallunaraju, Ocshapalca, Ranrapalca, Ishinca, Tocllaraju, Palcaraju, and Urus. We will descend to Ishinca camping, where we will spend the night.

    Day 03: Ishinca Valley – Huaraz
    We will descend through Ishinca Valley to Cochapampa, from where we will transfer you to Huaraz by private transportation.
