Cedros Alpamayo Trek Undoubtedly, one of the most beautiful treks in the world, where you can see the most beautiful mountain in the world and at the same time camp at the foot of the mountain. The Cordillera Blanca offers some of the most spectacular and varied trekking and climbing landscapes in the world. The range has more than 50 peaks of 5700 m or more, of which about 20 exceed 6000 meters, such as: Huascaran, the highest mountain in Peru (6768 m / 22,204 ft), while the pyramid of Alpamayo was recognized as the most beautiful mountain in the world.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • We recommend that you do at least a 1-day altitude hike to acclimatize before doing this trek.

  • Huaraz - Churup Lake Acclimatization

    Churup Lake is located about 20 km east of Huaraz in the Cordillera Blanca on the Llupa & Pitec route, one of the most beautiful and visited lakes.
    We leave the city of Huaraz in private transport to Llupa (3450 masl). From this place we start the hike to Churup Lake, after approx. 4 to 4 1/2 hours we will reach Churup Lake. Here we will stay for about an hour and then return to the city of Huaraz.

    Detailed Itinerary

    Day 01: Huaraz – Hualcayan – Hualcayan Village 2900 m / 9,514 ft - Calamina (Huishcash 4320 m / 14,173 ft)
    Starting from the city of Huaraz 3100 m / 10,170 ft with private transport for about 4 hours, along the Callejon de Huaylas heading north from Huaraz. Where we will pass through different traditional Andean towns Carhuaz 2650 m / 8,694 ft, Yungay 2537 m / 8,323 ft and the city of Caraz 2256 m / 7,401 ft until reaching the Hualcayan Village 2900 m / 9,514 ft where our muleteers and donkeys await us to transfer our luggage. There we will start the ascent towards the north, through continuous zigzag curves with a view of a large part of the Cordillera Negra until reaching our camp with an approximate time of 4 to 5 hours.

    Day 02: Calamina – Cullicocha Pass 4850 m / 15,912 ft - Osoruri 4560 m / 14,960 ft
    After breakfast we will start our hike eastwards, towards one of the most beautiful lakes in the Cordillera Blanca, Cullicocha 4630 m / 15,190 ft. Behind this lake we can see the Santa Cruz peak 6259 m / 20,534 ft and continuing our ascent to the first pass Torupishtanan (Cullicocha) 4850 m / 15,912 ft. From there we will descend to the second camp Osoruri 4530 m / 14,862 ft, which is located at the end and the beginning of the ascent to the second pass Vientonan, which takes place the following day.

    Day 03: Osoruri – Jatunvientona Pass 4750 m / 15,583 ft – Ruinapampa – Jancarurish
    Continuing our ascent to the Vientonan pass, at 4750 m / 15,583 ft, and then we will descend about 600 m to the Cedros valley. We then ascend eastwards, along the Alpamayo Valley until we reach our camp Jancarurish 4200 m / 13,779 ft, where you can appreciate the excellent perfect pyramidal panoramic view of the northeast face of Alpamayo, "The most beautiful mountain in the world". In addition to other peaks such as Tayapampa and Quitaraju.

    Day 04: Jancarurish (Alpamayo Base Camp) - Free Day
    This day we plan to take it as a free day to rest, recovering our energy, and do an excellent hike to the Jancarurish lake of approximately 1.5 hours.

    Day 05: Jancarurish – Moraine Camp 4850 m / 15,912 ft
    We continue ascending to the Alpamayo Moraine Camp, approximately 4 hours, allowing us to appreciate the immensity of the mountains such as Santa Cruz, Habas Raju, Quitaraju, and enjoy the sunset of the Alpamayo peak from our moraine camp at 4850 m / 15,912 ft.

    Day 06: Moraine Camp – Alpamayo Camp 1 5350 m / 17,552 ft
    This day we will begin our ascent to the Alpamayo glacier along a marked zigzag path for approximately 1 hour, where we will start using our appropriate equipment such as crampons, helmet, harness, among others. Then we continue the ascent overcoming the crevasses until we reach Alpamayo camp 1 where we will camp. From here we will have the imposing view of the Santa Cruz peak and the most beautiful mountain in the world that many of us dream of being at the foot of the famous Alpamayo mountain.

    Day 07: Camp 1 – Base Camp 4300 m / 14,107 ft
    After breakfast we will start our descent to the Base Camp (Arhuaycocha) 4300 m / 14,107 ft, where 3 rappels will be made along the glacier path, then we continue bordering the crevasses to the moraine. From here we will start descending along a rocky path to the Base Camp.

    Day 08: Base Camp – Cashapampa 2900 m / 9,514 ft - Return to Huaraz
    We will begin the descent through the Arhuaycocha Valley until reaching the Quishuar junction, where the hike will begin along the Santa Cruz valley. We will pass by the lakes of Jatuncocha 3900 m / 12,795 ft, Ichiccocha 3850 m / 12,631 ft, and the Llamacoral camp 3760 m / 12,335 ft, where this camp is used for the Santa Cruz trek. Then we will continue the descent through the narrow gorge of the same name until reaching Cashapampa, where our private transport awaits us to return to our city of Huaraz.
