Hatunmachay Hatun Machay is a rocky forest located in Peru’s Cordillera Negra. This awe-inspiring place boasts amazing granite rock eroded by water, wind, and glaciers. On this rock climbing program, we will find a variety of 15 to 60-meter routes for different levels at an altitude of approximately 4200m (13779ft.).
We will set off from Huaraz and pass the towns of Recuay, Ticapampa, and Catac. Then, we will take a detour to the Cordillera Negra and once we reach the checkpoint, we will start with a 15 or 20 min hike towards the stone forest of Hatun Machay, where you will see cave paintings, petroglyphs and different rock formations. After enjoying some amazing climbing, we will return to Huaraz.
This program is open to participants of all levels, we will find the perfect route for you.
Day 01: Huaraz – Catac - Hatun Machay
This day we head south of the city of Huaraz, passing the towns of Recuay, Ticapampa, Catac, later we will take a detour to the Cordillera Negra; Once we reach the checkpoint, we will start with our walk for 15 or 20 min. Approx. towards the stone forest of Hatun Machay, where you can see cave paintings, petroglyphs and different rock formations.
Hatun Machay is a rock climbing area for lovers of this wonderful sport; Here you can find a variety of routes between 15 and 60 meters of different levels. Where we can do our climbing activity later. Then we will come back to our campsite.
Day 02: Hatun Machay - Huaraz
This day we will visit the Hatun Machay stone forest, also to visit different climbing sectors. After visiting we will start with our rock climbing activity and in the afternoon we will returning to the city of Huaraz.
